Climate change is a major concern for Belize, already impacting the country with rising temperatures, longer droughts, and ocean acidification. Belize’s reliance on climate-sensitive sectors makes it particularly vulnerable to economic challenges, such as declines in agriculture, increased disaster recovery costs, and health risks like heat stress and vector-borne diseases.

Although Belize contributes less than 0.01% to global greenhouse gas emissions, the country is still feeling the effects of climate change. Belize remains committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement and is focused on reducing emissions through greater use of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. As a net carbon sink, Belize absorbs more carbon than it emits, but continues to face emissions challenges in certain sectors. Despite its small emissions footprint, Belize is dedicated to taking meaningful action on climate change.
